Measure of Sucess
There are probably just as many definitions of success as there are people who have had bariatric surgery.

Tips

Stock up on 4-6 oz containers and stock up your freezer with healthy leftovers in single sized portions.  This makes meals a cinch.

Your New Life

Obesity is a chronic disorder - not a personal failure to control weight.

Being severely overweight creates physical and emotional complications that make it difficult or impossible for you to participate in family, recreational, or even work-related activities. Over time, your obesity exposes you to the significant risk of developing serious health problems, such as diabetes, heart disease, and degenerative joint disease. The most common reason our patients give for coming to Barix Clinics is a concern for weight-related health problems that prevent them from fully enjoying the lifestyle they would like to with their families and loved ones.

Losing weight can help relieve all of these problems. At Barix Clinics, there's hope for a new life.

According to the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, “Bariatric surgery is known to be the most effective and long lasting treatment for morbid obesity and many related conditions, but now mounting evidence suggests it may be among the most effective treatments for metabolic diseases and conditions including type 2 diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and obstructive sleep apnea.  Surgery for severe obesity goes way beyond weight loss.  The surgery results in the complete remission or significant improvements of type 2 diabetes and other life-threatening diseases in most patients.”

A recent study conducted by Katie King of Rochester College in Rochester Hills, Michigan explored in more depth what the exact physical and psychological improvements were for those have undergone weight loss surgery.  The results are from nearly 1,000 survey responses from patients of the Barix Clinics program.  Patients reported overwhelming improvements in the health conditions of fatigue, joint pain, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, arthritis, type 2 diabetes, asthma, poor circulation, gallstones, heart disease, gout, stroke, infertility, and irregular menses.

In addition to the very significant health changes, respondents reported improvements in their quality of life.  Improvements were seen in the areas of physical appearance, self, life as a whole, contentment, personal life, the extent to which life has been as wanted, personal life, significant other, romantic life, as well as other areas of improvements.

The study author concluded, “It is apparent from this study that a reduction in weight leads to significant increase in physical well-being, self-esteem, and quality of life.”
