Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Gastric sleeve surgery is the newest type of weight loss surgery offered through the Barix Clinics program. It has historically been used as the first step in a two-step process for those at higher risk for complications. It allowed for an initial weight loss and then was then converted to a gastric bypass surgery when the patient reached a safe weight.
Gastric sleeve surgery is now used as a stand-alone weight loss surgery option. The gastric sleeve surgery involves the removal of about 60-85 percent of the stomach so that it takes the shape of a tube or sleeve. This surgery can be converted to a gastric bypass surgery at a later date if needed for additional weight loss.
Gastric sleeve surgery is typically done laparoscopically with a short recovery period.
Resolution of weight related health concerns is significant.
