About Us

 A History of Care

In the spring of 1992, just after the National Institutes of Health endorsed the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure, we began as Bariatric Treatment Center with a single facility in Addison, Michigan. Here we designed and continuously improved our protocol for the gastric bypass surgery, developing an entire program that goes beyond surgery to deliver long-term success. Now called Barix Clinics, our program offers both bariatric and reconstructive surgery in Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Our program is devoted to exclusively to treating bariatric patients.

We understood early on that the procedure itself was only a tool - it needed to be surrounded by a complete multidisciplinary team of care before, during, and after weight loss surgery. The Barix team has successfully helped almost 40,000 patients over the past 18 years with this long term commitment to bariatric surgery.

Commitment To Quality

Through the success of our patients, we became known not only for our weight loss surgery program, but also for our exceptional care centers. At Barix, weight loss surgery patients are treated with the respect and attention that they deserve. The hospital facilities are designed for their special needs and the staff is well equipped to support the needs of our patients at every stage. At each one of our facilities, the most important people are our patients.

Our commitment to the quality of your experience and its success is recognized by the accreditation of the Joint Commission. Each of our centers has earned and maintains the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval by adhering to rigorous performance standards.
